Fertility and Pregnancy Care
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been used for centuries in assisting women in achieving and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. It offers safe, holistic, non-invasive medicine which complements western obstetrical care.
Fertility and Preconception
Pre-conception treatments are focused on optimizing your health to create a fertile ground for a healthy pregnancy. Since the developing follicle takes 90-120 days, it is ideal to start receiving acupuncture, herbal medicine, and making positive dietary and lifestyle changes 3-4 months before conceiving. Many couples come to acupuncture because they have already been trying to conceive for a while or have had unsuccessful pregnancies. Serina offers fertility treatments for patients having difficultly conceiving and want to try naturally or who are using assisted reproductive technology (ART) and want to optimize their chances of a successful pregnancy.
Focusing on nourishing oneself and allowing the experience of deep relaxation is one of the keys to creating a healthy, healing environment in which conception can occur. Treatments help to reduce stress, regulate hormones, balance emotions, increase nourishing blood flow to the pelvis, encourage healthy sperm, support implantation, and regulate menstruation.
Pregnancy
Gentle treatments help you relax and rejuvenate during pregnancy and help promote optimal health in the mother-to-be and developing baby. Serina offers the following services for women suffering from pregnancy-induced health conditions or simply desiring more ease in their pregnancy and labor.

Pregnancy
Gentle treatments help you relax and rejuvenate during pregnancy and help promote optimal health in the mother-to-be and developing baby. Serina offers the following services for women suffering from pregnancy-induced health conditions or simply desiring more ease in their pregnancy and labor.
- Pre-natal care: Prenatal care can include help with morning sickness, fatigue, muscle aches, pelvic and ligament pain, back pain, sciatica, threatened miscarriage, stress/mood swings, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory infections, heartburn, hemorrhoids, and malposition of the fetus.
- Pre-birth 'ripening' treatments: Known as 'ripening' treatments because they help to ripen, or soften the cervix for childbirth. These are weekly treatments beginning in the 36th or 37th week to help a woman relax and gently prepare for labor.
- Labor support: Acupuncture or acupressure is helpful during labor for relaxation and pain management, and it helps keeping labor moving forward. Acupressure techniques can be taught to women and/or birth partners to help their laboring women.
Post-natal care
- After birth, acupuncture and herbal treatments are aimed at nurturing and fortifying the new mother. Acupuncture and heat therapy (moxabustion) builds energy and helps the new mother regain her strength and heal.
- Serina offers treatments for post-partum depression, persistent uterine bleeding, breastfeeding problems, and healing after C-section. If C-section scars are slow to heal or remain tender even after many months or years, acupuncture treatments can help them heal.
